Flugel Horn – Paul Vodden
Paul is a very accomplished player and his talents are extremely useful on the back row, ‘right or wrong play it strong’, right Paul? Paul is married to Sheila on Horn and their daughter Hannah plays Trombone.
Solo Horn – Sandie Heyworth
Sandie joined the band in June 2009 from Torbay Brass where she held the Solo Horn seat. She has played Horn for most of her banding career but has also dabbled on Cornet, Flugel and Baritone. She says she always manages to return to Horn in the end! Sandie is a NHS Manager at Torbay Hospital and is married to Brent on Solo Baritone, with whom she has 2 children.
1st Horn – Sheila Vodden
Sheila, wife of Paul on Cornet and mother of Hannah on Trombone was persuaded to join us a few years ago for a contest on 2nd Horn and has never looked back. Shelia held the position of Solo Horn for a few years before settling on 1st Horn. Sheila has previously played for Crediton Town Band and The City of Exeter Railway Band.
2nd Horn – Annabelle Grose
Annabelle is a Primary School Deputy Headteacher in Plymouth. She joined the band whilst studying at University at Rolle College, Exmouth. Annabelle has played all positions in the Horn section including Flugel but is currently taking a back step due to work commitments and plays 1st or 2nd Horn.
2nd Horn – Jan Wallis – Treasurer
Jan is a retired Headteacher and has recently started a part time job at an animal shelter. She tells us she only took up the Horn after watching Brassed Off and being persuaded by friends to join the beginners band. She admits the decision was swayed with a drink in her hand! In 2010 Jan took over the important post of Treasurer from Jonathan Tribble.
