Cornets

Soprano Cornet – Paul Luford

Paul is a Colour Sergeant in the Royal Marines and is currently based in Lympstone Band. He is married to Claire on Euphonium and is often seen on his jet ski off Exmouth beach!

Principal Cornet – Bryony Snell – Band Manager

Bryony, a Music and Education graduate from Universty of Plymouth, began her banding career in Cornwall with Carharrack & St. Day in 1994 on Euphonium. Developing her musicianship she moved to Lanner & District, then a 1st section band, and on to Solo Cornet. She has also played with the Cornwall Youth Brass Band and Porthleven Band. In 2002 she joined the Solo Cornet ranks of Lympstone. In the beginning of 2007 Bryony moved on to Solo Baritone just in time for the band’s first contest in the 1st Section and in August 2009 returned to the Cornet section and to take over the role of Principal Cornet. Bryony works as a Freelance Web Designer and Developer.

Solo Cornet – Jess Fordom

Solo Cornet – Keith Gibson

Solo Cornet – Vacancy

We are currently looking for a talented Cornet player to take over the Principal Cornet or Soprano position. If you don’t think Principal Cornet is your thing, but you could take up the challenge of Solo Cornet then we would welcome you too. If you think you can help please get in touch.

Repiano Cornet – Tim Gittins – Property Manager

Tim is a Primary School teacher and moved to Devon in 2006 from Risca, Newport, South Wales where he played for the Rogerstone Band. He has played in most positions in the cornet section and has also played at the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall. One of the highlights of his playing career is playing at the French Open in Amboise, something he persuaded Lympstone to do in 2010!

2nd Cornet – Helen Brocklebank

Helen is one of the longest servicing band members and is very committed to the band. Whatever we do Helen will always be there. Helen’s husband, Colin is also our number one fan! He also is an accompished musician who will always give us help with conducting and advice.

2nd Cornet – Mike Clarke

Having joined us on Solo Cornet in 2003, Mike has moved through Flugel and Horn and back to Cornet again! Mike used to be a Submariner and currently lives in Saltash and travels the furthest to band!

2nd Cornet – Megan Dixon

3rd Cornet – Garry Brailsford

After a short break Garry has rejoined the band on 3rd Cornet.

3rd Cornet – Wendy Perry

Wendy joined the band in March 2010 after being inspired by ‘A Band for Britain’ on BBC 2. Wendy is originally from Oldham, Lancashire where at school she used to play the Cornet. Wendy is now a Molecular Biologist for DEFRA and lives with her husband and her two daughters Eva and Isla.
Wendy is currently having a break from the band to have her second baby. We hope to see her back as soon as possible!

3rd Cornet – Bridget Dixon

Deps

Solo Cornet – Alli Holland

Alli “chose brass cos it chose me” discovered brass bands during her university days in Plymouth. She joined RBL in 1995 after playing the trumpet in a wind band. Moving to Lympstone in 2004, Alli became the band’s new Soprano player, bringing her fidgeting and competiveness with her. Alli is arguably the fittest member of the band as a semi-professional athlete. This commitment now prevents her from rehearsing with the band as much as she would like, but is happy to play anything that is needed – Cornet, Soprano Cornet, Flugel, Horn…!

3rd Cornet – Liz Courts

Liz joins us from St. Agnes band and has recently graduated from Rolle College in Exmouth with a BA in Music. Liz is a committed member of the band who will also help other bands, especially the Cornish ones!
