The newsletter encouraged me to check-out the web site and I'm very impressed. It delivers a lovely balance of contemporary and historical info and images and it's fantastic that you're now using the old Chapel as the Band Centre. It seemed I spent most of my childhood in the main chapel and adjacent hall, so happy that it is being used in such a 'positive' way!

I'm glad my photo from the early 1960's came in useful. I'll be back down to the village for the Furry Dance and will try and dig-out some more old photos of the band from the Doak Family Archives whilst there.

Keep-up the great work!

Joe Doak :)

Hello all. My sincere thanks for taking part in the second Classics Galore! concert. The Band played magnificently and we have again had many comments from the public on your splendid performance. We will know the final figure sometime next week, but I assure you it will be far more than the £6,500 in 2007. Will keep in touch on that.

Just enjoyed a wonderful afternoon in Courtenay Park listning to you. I was very, very impressed. I think I may have been the only person there under the age of 60, but I do not mind. I enoyed hearing some tunes I know and some I don't. Keep up the good work

Well done Lympstone, we slayed the Dragons!

4barsrest write up for Ebbw Vale!

Enjoyable First Section

The enjoyable, if rather short, First Section saw a comprehensive English victory, as welcome visitors Lympstone South West Telecoms produced a bravura account of 'Epic Symphony' that took the Mark Constance Trophy by a clear cut 3 point margin.

Javelin

Aided by prize winning contributions from solo cornet Sarah Gray and soprano Paul Luford, Charlie Fleming's energetic direction (at one point he very nearly impaled the second horn in the head as his baton flew out of hand and almost 20 foot into the air before landing like a javelin) saw them claim the first part of what they hoped would be a weekend double, as they headed to the Weston contest on Sunday.

No whistle

With Brian Buckley taking over the adjudication duties at short notice (so short he had no whistle and had to shout out his readiness from the box!) due to Gareth Pritchard having to leave due to family circumstances, it was Rogerstone who claimed the local bragging rights, beating RAF St Athan to claim the runner up spot.

Their late spring performance of 'Five Blooms in a Welsh Garden' brought some well directed colour to what was an overcast and steely grey Ebbw Vale sky, although St Athan's performance of 'Land of the Long White Cloud' was appropriately prefaced by an almighty thunderclap just before they played their first note - much to the amusement of the audience.

Just looking at your website and noticed a few old faces from the past.I used to play with Torbay Brass when Colin McEwen,Ken Cassidy and Derek Roberts were there.Torbay were a fine band in those days under the baton of Brian Buckley and were always a force to be reckoned with in the 1st Section.Iam still playing the Cornet and since leaving Devon have played for Yorkshire Imps and Carlton Main bands. I am now playing with my local band at Kirkbymoorside who have recently been promoted into the Championship Section following 3rd place in the National 1st Section finals. My daughter lives in Exeter and both my wife and I visit quite regulary so it would be nice to pop in and have a blow if thats ok? Please pass on my best wishes to Colin.Ken and Derek, it would be so nice to receive an email to catch up on old times.Regards Kevin

Sorry I couldn't make the Slapton weekend folks - it's very long and boring saga which still goes on and on, but hopefully there's light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately, some sadist keeps taking the bulb out...

Be at rehearsals and will get back into the fold next week.
