Nigel

EEb Bass - Nigel Strawbridge

Nigel learnt to play Bass so he had something to do whilst waiting for his sons who were playing in the Band. Nigel is a Data Processing Technician and in his spare time enjoys researching his family history.

EEb Bass - Gill Hawkins

Gill has been with Lympstone band for many years and has seen the band move from the 4th section right up to the 1st section. She has three boys, two of which have followed in her foot steps in learning a brass instrument. Gill's eldest son, Matthew joined the Senior Band in 2008.

Jack

BBb Bass - Jack Ballard

Jack joined us in 2006 from Crediton Band where he continues to play Eb Bass. He is currently studying for his A-levels and is a keen sportsman. He hopes to join the Royal Marine Band after finishing his studies.

Andy

BBb Bass - Matthew Hawkins

Matthew, is 17 years old and in the sixth form at Queen Elizabeth’s Community College, Crediton. He is studying music at A-Level and hopes to go on to University to continue his music studies at degree level and may apply to join the Royal Marines Band Service. Matthew is also a jazz enthusiast, playing Trombone in the school Jazz Band. Matthew also helps the Training Band by playing the Bass and composing and arranging music.

BBb Bass - Derek Roberts

Derek's brass banding career has spanned over the years both a number of South West Bands including Bodmin Town, the Royal Marines, Torbay Brass and Soundhouse Brass, and a number of instruments (from Soprano to BBb Bass) making him a most versatile player!  Hailing originally from Plymouth he learned to play in the local Salvation Army band before a short stint in the Royal Marines.  In 1993 he was proud to win the 2nd Section National Championships with Torbay Brass.  Derek now lives in Torquay, has a great love of 1980's music and vinyl records and works as a transport logistics operative for the Co-operative in Plymouth.
